This is the perfect opportunity to teach your kids the art of the quick cheek turn, so that mouth kisses miss the mouth.

All your husband has to say to your MIL is that your side of the family doesn't kiss on the lips. By her age, she's surely noticed that different families have different styles of expressing affection. They can giggle about how you're germaphobes and must be humored.

I find the kissing icky too, but then my waspy family just shakes hands, even the women.

OP, tell your children to speak up if it makes them uncomfortable. Its pretty gross, my ILs do it too and I just have to give them my cheek. Even worse, they have denture breath....
