Ha, well, my instincts were right on, then. I did do a grilled cheese for yesterday's lunch. But they didn't like it. But all it had on it was cheese, since one doesn't like mayonaise. Grilled cheese isn't as good after you've had it in your lunch box all morning. (Though when I did it on regular bread before, they did like it.)
These other things (the savory ones) sound great for me, but many are too complicated for a packed kid's lunch. For me. I'm no Martha Stewart. But I'll remember them for a lunch at home.

It sounds like french toast is the winner. Do you think that would hold out in a lunch box til lunch time? Obviously I couldn't use syrup, but I could dip it in cinnamon sugar, which is how they often like their french toast.
