We have flex time, and maxi flex time. We're supposed to generally stick to the same schedule, but are allowed to start from 6 am to 10 am.

I work 8-4:30. No flexibility. My first week I came in 10
Minutes late and my boss commented on it. I was shocked. I had expected just to stay 10 minutes later.

DOJ here. My agency allows either maxi-flex, AWS, or the typical schedule, plus telework (currently at 50%). I work a maxi-flex schedule from 6.45am-3.15pm; they allow an earlier start time but it's not feasible for me.

My husband is a GS 15 at HHS and as a manager, can't do any alternate work schedules or telework, but he has a very small office where currently there is only one other 15 and no office director.

GAO requires a 45 minute unpaid lunch. You cannot take the lunch at the end of the day. We do have maxi-flex time, so start and end times vary.

Exactly. You can have a doctor's appt. in the morning and not have to take leave. Just work a little later. And for managers, we don't have to worry about granting "grace time" or idiotic leave restrictions based on tardiness.

As you can see it does vary by agency. Usually it depends on what the union can negotiate. But it all adds up to 80 hours every two weeks, with varying degrees of flexibility, at least for non-managers. Plus a 30 or 45 minute lunch, which most places won't let you skip.

But remember, despite the flexibility around when you work your hours... You have to work your hours. Not like the private sector where in many white collar jobs you can kick off early if it is slow and you are getting stuff done. That's really the tradeoff. Your hours are limited (and you get credit hours/comp time for extra work), but they expect you to work every one of those hours.

New Poster. I am with SSA and we have the same arrangement.
Some people get in at 6am, others at 9:30 (the latest allowed).

IRS has the same. It works well.

GS-15, 7:30-4:00, one flex day/week.

In my part of FDA we can vary our schedules from day to day (never have to pick a permanent start time) but must work 8 hour days and be present during the core hours.

Our start/end times are flexible, but FT employees work at least 8 hours a day plus a 30 min, unpaid, mandatory lunch. So if your start time is 8:30am, your work day ends at 5pm (although people often stay late because the work load requires it).

That is ours too. I work 6:30 to 3, but I often work credit hours to get work done.

Depending on the job definitely anything GS14-15), you can expect to work more than 40 hours a week, too. My husband routinely works 8:30-6:30, and often later.

GS-15, usually work M-F from 8:30am-7:15pm plus travel when necessary. I don't use up all my use-or-lose. Long hours.
