My god. I would be over the moon if they didn't buy my kids presents. They spend too much on crap I have no room for. Would rather they just spend time with them.

My parents are coming to visit us for Christmas. When we discussed holiday plans, my mom said that with young kids, its easier for them to come to us rather than make us tote two small children on a plane to visit them. She also convinced my brother to come as well. That's a pretty good present right there and if we don't get another present, that's enough for us.

However, I would be upset if they didn't get presents for the grandkids. Us though? Wouldn't faze me.

Yes I would.

If they are mercurial and mean then I would be pissed. If they generally spoil me I would assume it was a surprise and they were trying to keep me in the dark about a BIG gift. And would start dropping hints about expecting a surprise so they would be guilted into doing it for sure.

My parents are wealthy and my husband and I are quite well off. We stopped giving presents among adults in my family years ago. Everyone has or buys whatever they want so we give presents to the kids on Christmas only. Before we stopped, we all gave gifts to each other. My parents did not just give to us. We gave to them within our means. Do you buy presents for your parents?

Should you be upset that your wealthy parents are choosing not to spend money in a particular way? No.

Can you be upset about other emotional issues that may be wrapped up in this situation and being expressed this way? Sure, but only you know if those exist and are worth being upset about.

Perhaps this is a test. They want to see who will show up for the holiday celebrations knowing they aren't getting anything. Are they the kind who would do that? I think you should go and pay attention to them. They will not give you a gift this year but at least they will know you give a darn.

Lol! My parents and I don't exchange gifts. Everyone has more than they need. Kids get gifts however because they are children which is fine with everyone.
