The OP had a very sensible question about location, schools, costs of homes to still get good SN services and a reasonable commute into DC so that real estate was a very relevant topic. If one does not like a particular post then just skip over it. There are certainly many pointless or repetitive postings on many topics on many of the subjects on this and other forums so why one would pick this one out is strange.

Why not rent? If you can't afford, don't buy.

Fairfax City and Burke have townhomes in your price range.

Do not leave FCPS!!!
It also depends on where your base services are and ages and stages?

Can you do the Lorton/Newington Forest area?

Halley had a great child find program, and thus the school is well equiped at all ages. Also have friends at Newington Forest & South County who say good things.
Lorton is new homes/condos/townhomes at lower price points.
