Be glad when people know what they need to be at their best. For some people this is a hotel where they can go to recharge.

I only stay in hotels. I also hate when people stay at my house.

Win-win!

Just try to let it go. I know it's hard. But my dad stays in a hotel when he visits me, even though I only have one child and she is very well-behaved for a two-year-old. He started this way when she was a non-sleeping infant, and now he is just set in his ways and needs a lot of quiet time, finds our house pretty small, and doesn't enjoy houseguests himself so it doesn't occur to him that hosting is fun for anyone else. He honestly thinks he's doing me a favor by sparing me the laundry and responsibility for all his meals etc. And it's the thought that counts, so I try to take it in that spirit.

With family, sometimes a little space makes the rest of the time go much better. Trust them to make the choice that best enables them to enjoy your kids. Absence makes the heart grow fonder!

I don't think it is a slight in any way. If you generally get along with your in-laws, just accept that staying with their daughter was an easier, more relaxed choice.

Sounds like you have a good head on your shoulders and you are just a little disappointed. I think that's normal.

I am going to say that you don't sound at all like a typical whack-a-do DCUM poster. So enjoy the holidays!

OP here. I agree with this but I do want to clarify that my husband has one brother so my SIL is not my inlaws daughter. However I do think its just an easier more relaxing choice and that makes sense.

As an “older” woman, I can relate. OP, you will understand when you get older. I don’t mean this as condescending in any way - I totally understand your disappointment. But, as people get older and get in routines, being in a house with 3 little ones can be disruptive to their usually calm, predictable lives. I know. I am there. Be grateful that your inlaws still enjoying traveling away from home. As people age, staying in the comfort of their own homes takes priority for some.

Quite true. My in-laws tried it a couple times with us when the kids were little, then chose to stay at a nearby hotel at night.
Worked out better for everyone.

Op here. Thanks for snapping me out of it! I just felt a little let down because I love hosting family around the holidays but you all are right I can do that years down the line when my house becomes more appealing LOL! Thanks, Happy Thanksgiving!

You can host them when your kids are older. Your in-laws are lucky to have a nice DIL like you.
