Ours isn't, but I can't say I care. My child does have a diverse group of friends, however, but they aren't necessarily representative of the school's population.

I love being "in the sticks." It beats being around kids showing half their ass.

On an academic note, parents are part of the problem with regard to SAT scores. If it's not encouraged at home, schools can't force kids to try their best. Furthermore, Sherwood isn't a pressure cooker. The culture is very different from the atmosphere at a W school. So yes, there's quite a bit of money in that area, but the parents aren't necessarily pushing their kids to compete against one another.

I see nothing wrong with that. I'd rather have a strong community with parental support that encourages kids to be well rounded. Of course there are kids who shine. But they're not stabbing each other in the back to earn a spot.

This cluster is - IMO - one of the last feeder patterns that serves kids who fall w/in the middle to upper class range. Remember that it's the middle class who keeps the rest afloat.

QO and Sherwood are my two favorites in the county. I don't care about SAT scores. Your kid will score the same no matter what school.

QO is probably the best combo of all . Great spirit, good scores, decent convenience, edge of the country, tight neighborhoods, easy access to DC.

Well, since Asian kids score a whopping 20 points better out of 2400 in MoCo on the SAT I doubt that's the issue. Sherwood is only 54% white, and there are a lot more middle/lower middle class families in the area than in places like Bethesda and Potomac. I'd also guess that the SES of the Black and Hispanic families are on average significantly lower when compared to Bethesda/Potomac as well. SAT scores go up w/ SES so that's probably the largest difference.

IMO, kids from families with similar parental education and income levels will have similar scores at either school. The schools don't make the kids, the kids make the school. I feel like Sherwood is at a good place; it doesn't have a lot of issues associated either with high poverty or affluence.
