Subject: What's the deal with Cheverly, MD?
It’s like silver spring but even worse schools and surrounded by some of the worst parts of the metro area. It will always be held back comparatively.
It does have some charm and value being so cheap but if it has some appreciation potential is the wrong question as most houses will go up over time with inflation if nothing else being an asset. The real question is will it even shift away from being a family bedroom community in a bad area

Did you ask this "friend" why the cops were called? Maybe the things were so "stupid" because calling the police without a legitimate reason would be a crime.

I have lived in Cheverly for over a decade and it is definitely not MAGA. There are a number of religious conservative families but it is not a MAGA vibe.
If the yard signs during the last election were any indication, it skews heavily Democrat. (I think if you looked up the voting data it would bear that out.) I think I saw one Trump sign in all of Cheverly. That doesn't mean there weren't people who voted for him, of course, but it's a far cry from "very MAGA."

The biggest draw is that it is a 15 min commute to my job and the housing cost is low enough that we can afford a big house and my spouse can stay and raise our children.
As far as safety goes....no where is completely safe. But in the 12 years we have lived here we have never been a victim of crime. I felt comfortable walking my dog around the neighborhood late at night. We lived in MoCo before we moved here and our car was broken into 3 times in a year.
Another plus is that traffic is pretty light given the proximity of the city.
Also, we sold our first house at a significant profit and our current house is worth about 15% more than when we bought it 5 years ago. The property values are recovering from the burst bubble, it just didn't happen as soon as other parts of the DMV.
We have a ~2800 sq ft house (6br, 2.5 bath) and it is currently valued at $375-ish.

No it has nothing to do with drinking any "flavor aid". environment. Good community...very diverse. ..people are friendly and look out for oanother. After living in the especially "me-centric" areas in town, I'll take Cheverly any day of the week.
Please don't think we buy into any brainwashing here. It's a good place for u oung families to come and raise their kids in a safe environment. The people are great...the area us clean. So what if we dont have all the "cool, hip" Capitol Hill style places to go? Give me honest, real people like the ones here any day. They got your back.
