No that's not how this works. A friend of mine went through something similar when her schizophrenic BIL murdered his parents. He wasn't declared fit for trial for 6 years but he wasn't released in the meantime. He literally sat in jail unmediated until he was declared fit for trial at which he was found guilty.


She had a lesser charge originally, and could have been held for only 3 years.

Actually, originally Catherine had a lesser charge and could have only be held for 3 years. With the murder indictment, she can be held longer term (maybe permanently).

I know the father. He's a good guy, and considering what has happened, I think he's shown remarkable grace. I hope the children are okay.

I don't blame a sick mother for being profoundly mentally ill.

I blame the family and friends around her for knowing how sick she is and being in denial about her danger to her kids. Those kids are paying the price for a families' collective denial.


Glass houses. I don't think anyone realized how quickly she had become so unstable. The father and grandparents have shown such poise in the press to underscore the safe return of the kids (or at least at this point come to a resolution) in what I can imagine is the biggest nightmare of their life.

He said he's worried she may incriminate herself. But I'm not sure how to balance that against the need to find the children....unless they are all pretty certain the kids are dead.


It's reprehensible to me. I'm sure an attorney can explain why her rights matter more than the possibility of finding these poor children but I think this was a horrible ruling.
