Then why is this place so consistently recommended as kid-friendly, on this board or elsewhere?? That's what I just don't get!

$50 says you're one of those irritating parents who hands their kid a device to play games on whenever there's a wait longer than a minute. And that's including after you've been seated.

IHOP much better and cheaper, less pretentious. More fat people though.

Especially when it is a table of 6 and already limited seating. Sounds like the "10 minutes" was a mistake and likely an automated answer. Either way, I wouldn't be this pissed about it hours later

Nah. This one is on the restaurant management. There is a HUGE difference between 10 minutes and an hour. I'd be pissed, kid or no kid.

Yes, I think that is the key Don't go to popular places with preschoolers! BTW the Ted's in Capitol Hill has always been a place to avoid - the service was spotty pre-kids and it was always too crowded. No way would I attempt it (or any brunch spot, really) on the weekends.

OP, I agree with you! Anyone who says that a restaurant with any sort of wait beyond 10 minutes is "kid friendly" is delusional. Even worse that they lied to you about the wait time. Sorry!!! Next time just automatically skip any place that popular.

OP here. I will take credit for creating unity on DCUM, since it happens so rarely.

My point was actually not to whine but to warn people that this place so frequently lauded as so kid friendly was, in my experience, quite the opposite. Maybe the one in merrifield is worse than the ones in dc or Reston... Or maybe it's just not for me.

Why would anyone voluntarily choose to eat there -- I don't get it.

My point (OP here) was if they'd given me an accurate estimate either when I called or when I arrived, I absolutely would have gone somewhere else.

What do people find so family friendly about that place?

So what the hell stopped you from leaving? Who's the moron here?

I've been to teds bulletin in reston. SO kid friendly. As in their gave my kids games to play at the table, awesome kid menus and candy afterwards. I don't really think it can get any kid friendlier than that OP.
