I would not send my kid there. Too unwilling to challenge conservative dogma. I have some conservative beliefs but I believe a good education should challenge students to think for themselves and not just memorize and regurgitate ideological propaganda. The pressure to conform there is really high.

I feel sorry for you, sounds like you made a terrible school choice. If it makes you feel better, colleges left and right stifle free speech and it is an ongoing battle:

Then you wouldn't fit in at Pepperdine.

The linked sites pretty much confirm what everyone else said, namely that Pepperdine is a conservative school with less than average drugs and alcohol.
You seem to be attacking a strawman, i.e., The school that has absolutely no drugs or alcohol. That school does not exist. Pepperdine is far more toward that Ideal, however, than most schools.

Yes, this. Why such an unprovoked attack on a school? Just like any college, it won't suit everyone.

Lots of drugs and drinking while the administration might like you to believe otherwise.

If you want a 3rd or 4th tier school for kids who can't get in anywhere else and would love a view of PCH on your dime, this is the school for your Larla or Larlo!

After the first 4 words, this is an utterly ridiculous post.

Really? While it certainly is advertised as a dry campus, it is not. I have many friends who went there. Granted it is not nearly as bad as most college campuses when it comes to drinking, but you are kidding yourself if you think it is actually "dry" and if you are buying the Church of Christ business.

While it's a grand idea to think that you are sending your children off into the California sunshine to get their degree at a dry campus while they pray to the good Lord above, it's actually ridiculous.

P.S. The cars in that campus parking lot will outshine all of the cars in McLean, Potomac, Wesley Heights or any high priced neighborhood here.

Whoever the PP's are that think this school is top tier and holier than thou are out to lunch.

I think the son of the current president of the university is still in prison for wielding a gun on campus and is a suspect in the death of Katie Wilkins. A fine and upstanding institution indeed. It sure is pretty!

A little defensive? Hilarious. All the heated response to "dry/cars/top tier" when those words weren't even mentioned in the quoted post.

PP from that area--yes, agree with 19:38, a car is a must-have there.

We looked at it this year. Gorgeous, breathtaking location. You will need a car. Very conservative and my boho laid back daughter who thought she would love it isn't even going to apply. Depends on the kid.

Great info, thanks everyone! S is fairly conservative but not all that religious ("Christmas and Easter" Catholic) so that's something to think about, I suppose...

And yes, PP, I realize it's not in the Midwest.

Thanks for the geography lesson. Now good read the original post again.

Ambiguous. Reduced tuition at "even more" schools sounds like even more midwestern schools.

Sorry, PP, better go back and read it again. It's not ambiguous. OP states, "he receives free tuition at a variety of similar schools in the Midwest and reduced tuition at even more, Pepperdine being one of them."

Free in the midwest, and reduced tuition at even more (schools than in the midwest)

and besides all that, how could you not get the gist of what OP is trying to say? Why make the perfect the enemy of the good?

I'd say the schools are ranked comparably, but they are so different that I do not think that someone would find BOTH acceptable. Oxy is very liberal, Pepperdine is conservative.
