I typically wear my jeans twice before washing them. the first time I wear them "out" when I want to look cute. The second day, when they're a little stretched out, I will wear them for doing errands or hitting my kid's soccer game or whatever - I don't have to look as cute for that. Then I wash them inside out.

(Mine are usually Lucky's that cost around $100.)

Even if the smaller size causes a muffin top? I can button and zip them but I definitely get a muffin top whereas the larger size doesn't do this (but then stretches out in butt and knees by the end of the day).

Not true. Some still do. Every pair of Joes I own will bag out. I've had better luck with Paige, but they will start to sag slightly by the end of the day. 7FAM fit nicely, but the material gets holes after a while. I had good luck with COH so far.

I recently bought a pair of DL Premium Denim jeans and so far they have NOT stretched out, as advertised! I'm very happy with them. They were really expensive (I think $180) but it is worth it to not have that baggy-butt look by midday and not to have to wash them every single time you wear them just to get them to fit again.

The only other pair of jeans I have that don't stretch out are a pair of 10 year old Earls, which may not even exist anymore. They are a much heavier type of denim than most jeans are these days. I find Gap and Banana Republic both VERY stretch-out-y.

My Lucky jeans don't stretch out, but I was encouraged to buy the snug size and they do feel/look best after 10 minutes (maybe some squats, too). My Loft or Old Navy ones I wear on days I'm feeling bloated b/c they stretch like crazy.

Be careful with the dryer. Supposedly, heat can break down the spandex. I dry mine, but never on high.

Lucky or 7 mankind that've worked for me. Jeans from express stretch a ton. In gap I end up buying 24s instead of 25 because of the stretch. Those are much nicer than american eagle or express jeans.

Go for 100% cotton and it won't happen. Also, the number one rule when buying jeans is to take the smallest size you manage to button and not the comfortable size because all new jeans will stretch by a least half to one full size.
