The neighbor walks along the grass line of the properties and has a huge stick he is waving at dogs - dogs who are in their own yards. Dogs who are NOT leaving their own yards, or in danger, real or imagined (!!!), of leaving their own yards.

Some people do not like animals. That gives them NO right to be waving a weapon (thanks PP, because that is exactly what it is) at neighborhood dogs which pose zero threat.

To reiterate: zero threat = contained, with certainty, to their own yards. Own yards=their own property = private property = not invited = trespassing.

If you don't like dogs, cross the street or walk in another neighborhood (hint: one that does NOT have a dog in every yard); but do NOT come NEAR my dog trying to kill him for NO reason - other than that you are crazy. Because crazy will be the least of your problems.

Cameras are your friend.

Assaulting a dog which is on their own property is a very interesting topic. I bet the SPCA and the like would LOVE to hear about this; and issue some hefty fines. Fines that would result in a permanent record - animal abuse and assault NOT being the least of it.

Can this guy afford a good - no a great lawyer? Because he is going to need it.

Go out and get a longer stick - over 6'.

This thread is like a Rorschach test. OP never said whether it was on private or public property, yet tons of posts state categorically it was one or the other. Everyone brings their preconceptions, but nobody brings any facts.

Why is it so hard for dog owner to understand not everyone likes dogs? I don't want your dog getting near me. I don't think it is adorable for your dog to try and lick my toddler. I don't want to pet your dog. I don't want your dog to run up to me at full speed and stop 6 inches away from me. Keep your dog(s) leashed (near you not on a retractable 12+ foot leash) or on your property and no one will wave sticks at your dog.

This tendency of treating dogs like human children is getting absurd. You don't need to take your dog with you everywhere you go, you should never let your dog go up to strangers (is it alright if I just come up and sniff you, or leap on you? No? The control your animal).

I was on a run a week or two ago, and some dickwad's dog leaps towards me. I look back at the owner who thinks it's just so gosh darned adorable. Instead of being horrified that his animal is leaping at people just minding their own business, he thinks it's utterly cute. I don't hate dogs. I hate irresponsible, selfish dog owners.

Clearly, you didn't read the thread and have nothing to offer of use. This thread is not about dog owners. It's about unhinged dog haters who are threatening responsible dog owners.

Try to keep up.

Dismissed.

I calmly told him to stop what he was doing because if he hit me, or even came close to it, I would let my dog defend me.

He still carries the stick, but he hasn't waved it at me again.

Awesome!

It is fairly obvious that if people do not like animals, they feel the same about humans, and probably even worse about themselves.

Why are people chiming in randomly about dogs on the loose, when this has nothing to do with the thread? Interesting.

Because OP never stated what the circumstances are. I think most people don't leap to the " he's randomly going up to people's yards and threatening the dogs. Or threatening dogs on leash during a walk". OP still hasn't clarified but instead jumps on everyone. I'm going to guess this is a fake post meant to start the dog wars again.

You okay? We don't want you to have a breakdown over something you may be causing yourself, because it certainly sounds like you are a candidate doing this. I think I may know a better place for that stick....but I may be too late.....

Sounds like if there is more than one crazy, the video cameras should solve everything Thanks for the insight, seriously.

Exhibit A as to why I hate dog owners.

Was it tough to type that using your 5' stick?

Anonymous wrote:If the person is walking, on the road or sidewalk, with a large stick - and the dog is in the dog's own yard with a fence, how is the stick waver acceptable?

There are no loose dogs, nor was there any mention of a loose dog by OP.

If there really is some crazy guy walking around with a 5' stick, shaking it at any dog behind an enclosed fence, then that's probably a violation of something because he's basically weilding a weapon. I'd call the cops if that's actually the case. I'm doubtful that's the full situation, but if it is, pretty straight forward.

There are loose dogs roaming my neighborhood every day. The neighborhood listserve gets about 1/5 of its traffic from friendly neighbors trying to find the owner of loose dogs before calling animal control. Owners take their dogs, unleashed, on walks covering a route that passes right in front of the kid's play area. It's not a dog park. It's not even a regular park with grass. It's just a children's play structure on sand. Yet, unleashed dogs roam by. Half the time that I go for a walk with my baby, an unleashed dog runs up to me barking. Hopefully, where you live and where OP lives, dog owners are actually responsible law abiding citizens in which there would be no reason for some crazy guy to carry around a 5 foot stick to defend himself from loose dogs, but I'm sure you can understand why some of us are sceptical that all the dogs involved in this situation are leashed when they are legally required to be.

Again, it is really difficult to know what the situation is since no details of what is happening have been provided.
