Wearing sunglasses is not rude! You people are whacked. Sunglasses reduce the chance of cataracs later in life. Wearing them is a smart health choice. This man was a controlling jerk who wanted to scrutinize your looks.

She wasn't wearing sunglasses when they first met inside, so I think it's fine she put them on outside. Sounds like an awkward date, no big deal.

First of all, he was late. Not a good impression for him. Strike one.

While I agree that you shouldn't have worn your sunglasses outside, perhaps you should have sat somewhere where the sun wasn't so focused on your face...The fact that he asked you to take off your shades was totally rude + that would be a huge "no-no" for me. Strike two.

After those two things, any conversation would be awkward because after someone asking me to take off my sunglasses after showing up late, I wouldn't want to spend another second in his presence.

I love in LA and wear sunglasses every day and gasp even on dates!! This guy sounds like a loser.

Everyone I know wears sunglasses when we're seated outside at a restaurant, bar or ballgame. It's just common sense. Who wants to sit there and squint the whole time?

He may have been trying to gauge how attractive you were without the shades and how attracted he was to you. Sometimes a person can be smokin' hot with sunglasses on and they take them off and they're not as good looking. Just a thought.

But that said, at best, he's awkward. At worst, he's kind of a jackass and you guys wouldn't have worked out. Hope you get some better dates!

If I'm outside, I wear sunglasses as the glare bothers my eyes, and they're prescription so I can see. He sounds like an ass - next!

Wearing sunglasses is not rude in and of itself. But when you're talking to someone face to face, it's polite to take them off so the person can see your eyes. When DD and I are walking down the street holding hands and talking I don't take off my sunglasses. But if we run into someone we know and stop to chat, I do take them off, then put them back on when we're moving on again.

Op here. I did feel rude wearing the sunglasses. I don't normally wear them when talking to people. It was sunny and I kept squinting so I put them on . Lesson learned: I will ask to sit inside next time.

Yup. Wearing sunglasses is pretty rude, especially on a first date. It sounds like you got defensive about it and decided that between him calling you out on it and his being late, you didn't like him. That's fine, but chalk it up to no connection.
