They lived in a pottery barn/shack near the Inn when Rory was a baby. Lorelei didn't get the job running the inn when she was a teen -- she worked her butt off as a maid and worked her way up.

Rory got a scholarship to Yale, but it was not a full ride and she lost it (because of inheritance her mother received). Rory then asked the grandparents to pay for Yale, which they did, until Rory's dad asked to pay for Yale in it's entirety.

The anti-Gilmore Girls PP seems very bitter.

I agree, PP, the layout of the house never made any sense to me either. Why would you have your kid on the first floor when their was a second bedroom:

The first couple of seasons weren’t bad; it did go down hill when Rory left for college. I just really hate Lorelei. She’s so obnoxious and her strident repletion, “I single handedly raised a daughter as a teen mom ALL ON MY OWN, WITH NO HELP, blah blah blah…”

It’s total BS. A high school drop out with a kid would have been on WIC and/or Medicaid, not living in a house, going to college, eating out all the time, and having a huge, fabulous wardrobe. She’s stuck in perpetual adolescence by constantly vilifying her parents. My parents are so horrible…wah, wah, wah.

Perfectly awesome

The layout of this house never made any sense to me. Rory slept on the first floor, off the kitchen and Lorelei slept upstairs, that house looks plenty big to have at least 2 bedrooms upstairs. What gives?

This is one of my favorite shows. Do they have all the seasons on Netflix Instant?

Watching Lauren Graham as Lorelai for several hours in a row will give you eye twitches.

It goes away though if you order Chinese and pizza.

OP quoted above. No Chinese, but I had pizza and popcorn. Got through the first three shows tonight and no eye twitching.

Lauren Graham is Lorelai, an obnoxious, knocked up teen mom who runs away from obscenely rich parents to raise her daughter “on her own.” Is “taken in” by a kindly inn keeper who bequeaths job of running the inn AKA B&B to Lorelai. Daughter also name Lorelai but for some reason called Rory is of course extremely beautiful and bright. Dreams constantly of going to Harvard. Story line sends her predictably to Yale for a journalism degree, which of course, Yale should be realizing is a dead career. Lorelai has a perpetually antagonistic relationship with her parents especially her mother. She bitches endlessly about this and is so thankful she was never a debutante.

For some inexplicable reason Lorelai can afford a house as a single mom in rural Connecticut despite never having graduated h.s. or college and having a job which probably pay less than $30K. Of course brilliant beautiful daughter snags a scholarship to snooty private school then goes to an Ivy League school. Some how single mother affords everything “without help” on paltry salary. Mother and daughter live in an inexplicably quirky town with really annoying recurring character actors like Sean Gunn, share a coffee addiction, and both have a series of cute boyfriends who think they are the end all be all. It’s good to live in Stars Hollow because you will be gorgeous, whip smart, and afford Ivy League colleges.

(I'm definitely not gaga for it.)

Rory didn't have a scholarship. The whole premise of the show was that Lorelai had to go begging her parents for money for Rory's school. Also their house is big, bit is what DCUM would refer to as a shitshack.

I agree that Lorelai is annoying, though.

That's right, I forgot. Lorelai seeks out parents whom she previously cut out of her life to manipulate them into paying for the h.s. by actually letting them finally have relationship with now her teen daughter and their only grandchild.
