The sizing at that store is just like most other stores. I can wear my moms skirts from the 80s size 2 and it's the same as a 00 now.

I'm overweight (obese, actually) and I hate vanity sizing. It's so confusing and I know I'm not the size the label says I am.

I can't shop at American chains anymore. I'm a 6 equivalent, sometimes an 8, in European brands and higher end American brands, but size 0 at J Crew & BR are too big for me. Ann Taylor is the worst. Their 2 is more like a 10-12!

Well---come on. I wear an XS (shirts and dresses at Ann Taylor, Loft, Banana Republic, Gap). I am a size 2 at these places---yet my body is the same---same weight, muscle tone, etc. as I was in my mid-20s back in the the mid-90s when I was a size 6.

My son who is 75% weight/height and 9 years old still can't fit into his size 7/8 sweatpants from Children's Place because they are so frickin' huge.

Americans are fat and if we vanity size they will spend more $ at the store. If you make a size 2 what used to be a size 6---what happens to the "true" size 2?--they are now in negative sizes.

I wear tall sizes, so usually can't buy in store.

J Crew's size guide says a 14 is a 33" waist; Lands End size guide says a 14 is a 34" waist-- so pretty similar. Are these *actually* more or less the same size, or are they completely different? Anyone who knows their size in both brands and who can comment?

I bought some dresses from Land's End recently and had to buy "small." Which was super weird for me because I am 5'8" and weigh 150 lbs. There is nothing "small" about me. I'm muscular and lean, but when a person my size is a "small", that is f'ed up. (in other things, i'm a consistent size 6, which in my mind is a medium.)

the nice thing about Loft is that when I was having trouble losing baby weight, I was able to go in there and buy my usual size at other stores.

I wish the sizes meant something! Being based on measurements would be awesome. I'm 5'8" and 130 lbs, I literally have everything from size 2 dresses to size 10 dresses in my closet (yes, the 2 is from Loft). It makes it so hard to pick out new clothes, and don't get me started on ordering online!

why can't companies just make sizes like they do in europe, based on measurements?

Wedding dresses (especially designer ones) generally run on "couture" sizing, even now. So most people wear about 2 sizes larger in most brands of wedding dresses and some brands of bridesmaid dresses than they do in street clothes. Which is crazy because if you think of high fashion models, they have to be a size 0-2 in couture, not in mall clothes. So then I think about how tiny they must actually be, because a woman who's 5'10" and a size 2 in regular brands is pretty small anyway, and my mind is immediately blown.

And yes, rather than J. Crew just fixing their vanity sizing issues, they just decided to make a size 000. I guess they think that we're all fooled into thinking we're all really size 6's when 25 years ago we would have been size 10's.

What? Asians aren't fat. They do it so that regular and overweight women can wear sizes 2-8.

Some were too skinny/small to wear the smallest Jcrew sizes, so they introduced more. Not because they bumped up all the other sizes.

Yep I used to not be able to wear many of their clothing items. I'm 5'3 and 107. Thin but definitely should be able to wear clothing from a mall store!

Me too. I never buy jcrew because nothing fits. Their smallest size was always the equivalent to a normal 4.

I just recently lost some weight and was excited because I could now fit into some old size 10 pants I have. I went to the store and bought some new pants and tried on size 10 - and was SWIMMING in them.

At least I can say I wear a 8.....
