Excellent. This is great news. Now if only MOCO students all over would cram for Algebra at the end of the year the results will be skewed towards success instead abysmal failure!

Excellent choice for the MCPS kids. Beats watching TV and may help with the horrendous performance in mathematics for some.

No. It's a test specifically for admission to the program.

Not sure why MCPS is downplaying the importance of the test. I find it hard to believe that the test doesn't have a cut off.

If MCPS valued the parent recommendations why do they ignore most parents and run a shop shrouded in secrecy with regards mutually sharing of information and partnerships with parents?

The parent recommendation for entrance to magnet programs is not worth the paper it's scribbled on!

I heard they said parent's rec, not teacher's. I didn't go bc we have an older child already there but we also have a third grader so I heard this from other parents.

Fwiw, we spent less than 10 minutes filling out the rec and our child was accepted. I don't believe it has much weight despite what was said at mtg.

Teachers have the overview of everyone that has
applied. They see the student who is reading a high school physics book at school or whose questioning and understanding of material is at a higher level. Their rating is just one more data point for the committee. Unfortunately not enough slots for all the qualified kids.
