Some people are really ignorant when it comes to applying poisons. Pesticides can kill beneficial microbes in the soil that keep your plants healthy, and pesticides kill insects such as lady bugs and preying mantises that naturally eat pest insects and their eggs. Without careful training, you are likely to apply pesticides on so-called pests (insects that aren't doing any harm) and in the process destroy the natural fertility of your soil.
