It's nice that "DH fired him" however I've never heard of the decision being up to the boss kwim, it's generally decided/decreed by HR/company legal. Normally not even the prez of our company would fire someone without going through HR. But that's great that he's gone -

Here's an update: DH fired him.

I don't know the whole story but I get the impression he received some more information that swayed his decision. I agree with the folks above who said this is none of my business. That's the truth. DH asked my advice because he was so torn about the incident. He was up a lot last night and I really feel his stress. This is a situation that occurred in another part of the country and I have no reason to think that a post on this anonymous board will cause problems.

It may not cause problems, but does it not seem unethical to you?

Np here. I don't see any identifying information in her post. What makes you think it's unethical?

Because it's an employee issue that HR discussed with the supervisor.

Why would it be a problem if there's no identifying information?

I think you don't understand what unethical means.

I have worked in a male-dominated technical field for many years. I have learned to work with the creepy over-sharers. In the past, I've never seen HR give a hoot about this kind of behavior. However, in this case, there is probably information I don't know. I also continue to assert that there is no right to privacy when it comes to in-office behavior. It's not like I'm sharing his medical history or salary information.

Why is it ethical to make the receptionist work with creepy inappropriate guy?

Uh, you're missing the point. PP is talking about the ethical nature of posting a human resources situation on a message board.

OP, I'd really like to know if you work.

Not really, I don't think there is any guarantee of confidentiality in this situation.

Can't he have a supervisor in that state handle it and make the decision?
