Morning SACC is really affordable and covers teacher work days, if you want to explore that option.

Alternatively, my 13 year old daughter has agreed to babysit her little brother (11) - brother's friend (11) and his little brother (7?) - the mother is saving money by paying her for babysitting instead of paying for SACC. I'm able to be home on some of those days as well (but DD is in charge).

Know any middle school students?

Yes, we're in Arlington, but that's what we do. I know Virginia Baseball Club has camps during FCPS and APS workdays.

Remember when your expenses were going to dramatically drop once your kid went to school, now you know why they don't go down as much as you expect.

Babysitter, nanny or camp for the day.

And wait until summer and school holidays.

There are a bunch of camps for teacher work days. Look into Tae Kwon DO places, churches, community centers. We've never had a problem and our kids even though they can go to SACC prefer some of the camps once in a while.

I'm a teacher. This summer, I tried to help friends and neighbor whenever I could. But with the # this year! I signed my littles up for SACC instead of having a sitter who could not cover workdays due to her college class schedule. So, today my littles are at SACC, and my oldest is hiking with a friend, whose mom I helped a bunch this summer.

I took my child to work. I cannot believe I actually got work done and we stayed the whole day. DC had a blast and a meltdown when we had to leave. I was hoping DC would be my ticket to a short work day but apparently my office is fun. I want to be a five year old.

I attempt to schedule my shifts to accommodate these days. In exchange, DH covers sick days (which are rare but my job isn't very flexible). Usually grandparents (both sets) will ask if they can cover some of the scheduled off days.

We pay for morning SACC only for these days, all the 2 hour delays and the occasional morning work meeting. It's worth the peace of mind to always have care and he loves it.

I'm a SAHM. I'm always happy to help out my WOHM friends. It's a win, win situation for all. I'm helping out another mom and my kids have someone to play with.
