The reason I have never told any friends about it (family knows and is proud of me) is because when I was 27 I got a contract for a third book. After writing the entire book the publisher decided not to publish it. I was heartbroken and never wrote another word since. My self esteem was crushed and has never recovered and I have never discussed my career as a writer with anyone since.
This breaks MY heart! I hope you can take some pride in the fact that you are a published author. That really is awesome don't you know that? I totally understand your not wanting to discuss your writing career though. Just sorry to hear of your heartbreak. This just spoke to me for some reason.
