I was thankful that Black Jack's attempted rape of Claire didn't progress as far as it did in the book.

The book had two days of loving wedded bliss before the attempted rape and abduction. Besides being yummy, I thought the Jamie/Claire romance was important to show depth of feelings on both parts. I'm still closing my eyes knowing what must be coming in the next episode April 2015.

Thoughts on the midseason finale?

While watching I was surprised at some of the deviations from the book, but upon reflection I though they did a good job compacting the material into an hour. Although in the book Claire doesn't realize she's angry at Jamie for not protecting her from the redcoats until later, moving that reaction to the immediate aftermath of the attack made her run for the stones at that point understandable. Showing Frank's struggle with her disappearance (and therefore their strong bond) further explains her motivation to return to the 1940's. I also liked seeing the glimpse of Black Jack in otherwise mild mannered Frank when he beats the crap out of the muggers.

What I DIDN'T like was the obvious fake background in the scene where Claire and Jamie were talking on horseback (if I recall the scene correctly). The filming so far has been so beautiful- I hated that they did such a clunky job with that scene!

Did she really say that she is looking forward to the rape scene? Ewwwwwwwwwww. She does seem like an arrogant ass when I've seen her in the behind-the-scenes stuff, but that is too much.

She seems pretty awful- insulting the actors, etc. She said something along the lines of "I looked up photos of Sam online before meeting him and thought he looked grotesque" and told Tobias Menzies during a group interview that she enjoys seeing Sam Heughan's naked ass, but not his. The scene she most wants to see is Sam/Jamie being raped. Things like that, said in her very snooty way.

I had to buy the kindle version just to read ahead. I read so fast to find out what happened that I missed the "fade" -- I thought it was going to be when Claire went under the cold water -- but then she woke to a redcoat and was taken to BJR. Was the fade with Jamie before or after that part?

I do like having the accent in my head from the show when I read the book.

And the pp who referred to the spanking was being, uh, kind. I took it that she didn't relent and he went with the beating. I wish I could un-read that and I'll definitely skip it if it's in the show. Seems to me like a little spanking would have worked just fine.

1b.) Jenny Murray... Yay or nay on how she looks? I know it was about 90 seconds of screen time, but I think she has serious potential

1c.) Anyone else want to see how Jamie is totally taken to task by his older sibling?

I have mixed feelings about this. I thought the reunion scene in the book, where Jamie just assumes his sister has been sleeping with the entire English regiment, was a little over the top. So I hope they tone this down a bit. OTOH, I think it is important to show how capable and in-charge and whoop-ass Jenny is, because it goes a long way toward explaining why Jamie is more 'modern' in his attitude toward women than his peers.

I hope the actor who plays Ian is good--I really want the Jamie/Ian relationship to be strong.
