I am pretty sure they are offering Math 7 & 8, not just Honors Math 7 and 8.

Yes, the problem is that kids signed up for non-honors classes by choosing them from the course catalog, but then at BTS Night we learned that the honors and non-honors classes had been combined. Just because it says it in the course catalog doesn't make it true. Principals have a lot of discretion.

Oops. Should say "was not communicated by the course catalog..."

No, there was a change that was by communicated in the course catalog, registration forms or schedules. It was a surprise to most.

The link above is to Longfellow course catalog for 2024-15. Plenty of non Honors courses in English, History, etc.

OP may be getting confused with TJ info. TJ only has Honors, AP or post AP classes in most fields.

Guess you missed the part about it being a new change this fall.

If Longfellow is honors courses only, I must have dreamed the two years that I attended since I was only in one such class. Is there only honors level wood shop now too? Do you fail if your wooden clock isn't smooth as a baby's behind?

All that does is force the teacher to teach the honors class at the GE level.

No, all that does is prove that the honors curriculum should be the standard, not GE. Virtually all kids are capable of doing honors work.

If everybody can do it, it's not honors.

The same could be said for AAP.

Ah, but Longfellow is like Lake Wobegon---everyone is above average.

Not sure whether the 10 kids part is true, but the combination is certainly true. Many parents were taken by surprise by the change because there was no advance notice.

Not at LMS, but I'd be surprised if this were the case.
