I go to back-to-school night to meet the teacher and get a feel for their personality, teaching style, preferences, and attitude. It helps down the road.

I prefer the conferences. Just email me the damn field trip packet and class schedule and save us all from btsn.

After the first year- pretty worthless.

I missed last year as I was feeling realy sick that evening and didn't feel like it was a huge loss. This year, I am sending my husband as I am hugely pregnant - he can go and take one for the team.

I can't imagine thinking that meeting my child's teacher and hearing about what my child will be learning, how the classroom will be managed, etc. to be a waste of time. It's also nice to see the other parents, etc. It's one night out of your life. Why on earth wouldn't you want at least one parent to go?

Please don't skip and then just ask the teacher to tell you everything you missed. Otherwise, she's going to know that you're the parent that is going to expect her to do the same thing for your child when you pull him out of school for a week for a family vacation.

It amazes me. If not sincerely interested, it would seem like there would at least be a LITTLE curiosity about seeing the teacher and the other parents.
