Ex is liking pics because his memories of you are clearly better than your memories of him. And I'm not sure I consider "liking" someone's photos to constitute contact with that person.
You may have to block him if you are in this much pain.
I have a couple of exes hidden because their happy posts with other women tend to pop up on my page at the worst possible times, like when I've just been dumped or laid off or something else that sucks. I don't defriend them because I don't dislike them, I'd just rather control when I have to be reminded of their existence instead of being thrown onto my wall. (these guys weren't bad to me.)

Since the break-up was quite recent OP, your feelings toward him are still very raw. My best advice would be to delete him from your Friend's list. If he contacts you after that, then I would go ahead and choose to block him.
Regarding your question about him liking your photos, he may be trying to get on better terms w/you or he could just be trying to look good to others on Facebook since he knows others can view it. Either way, remember he cheated on you thus breaking your heart. It's better that you dumped the louse and are moving forward no matter how much it may hurt.

I second this. I went through a bad breakup and my ex continued to write me on facebook begging for forgiveness, etc...typical... I deleted him from facebook as well as all of his friends. I never looked back!
