Mostly considered tacky in the South too. I see them more in Virginia and Maryland than I have in the deeper South.

I think the PP has a good point. Women I know who go on collection binges of different objects all the time tend to like them. Then they usually tire of them and go on to collect something else.

Some beads are gorgeous. But a whole bracelet or necklace of beads/charms can be overwhelming sometimes.

Perhaps they're popular in some circles because they're easy gifts or collectables. If someone has a Pandora (or similar) bracelet -- its tempting and easy to give them bead/charms as gifts.

Never appealed to me. Maybe it's too blingy, or tacky? Never gave it much thought.

What's tacky is denigrating a whole swath of the country, teachers and SAHMs because a stupid bracelet is not consistent with your taste.

They aren't really my thing, however some of you people are quite snobbish and judgy. Teachers and SAHM's -- Midwesterners and Southerners -- tacky, really? It's a bracelet, not a moral virtue or major lifestyle choice.

tacky, no.

ugly, IMO yes.

I like the idea of a charm bracelet, but haven't ever seen an execution I'm willing to wear.

+1 The idea, like any charm bracelet, is cute. I don't see them and recoil, it's just a damn bracelet, but I do think "overpriced mall store." I think of it as a younger girl thing.

This is pretty much how I feel. They're not my style at all, I don't find them attractive, and I don't think they do anything good for the person's look, but I don't find them cringeworthy or anything like that. They're just either very young or too old and trendy for the sake of being trendy without actually being nice.

Way to generalize, there.

This SAHM doesn't like Pandora jewelry.

Wait...what? Teacher here and I don't have one. Are you saying that because you think SAHMs and teachers have them, they must be tacky?

Well, cheesy anyway.

It is a scam. A brand of bracelet where you buy the bracelet itself for $50-100 and then collect charms at $50 to $250 each to end up with an incredibly expensive piece of crap. They remind me of lottery tickets as the people don't even realize how much they have spent on the thing, but continue to save up for more beads.
