General fall = Mid-Sept. (though I got antsy and put out some scarecrows when it got cool this week).
Halloween = Oct. 1 - 31. They come down the next day.

Yes, I agree that mums, fall wreaths and such can go out early Oct. But ghosts and goblins get put out closer to Halloween.

I would love it if people in our neighborhood started decorating now! It's fun and kids love it!

We wait until Oct 1. What kind of Fall decorations do people have? We only have Halloween-specific things and then Christmas.

I would do it just to both the dictator next door.

This has makings of a sappy ABC Family movie. By the end of the movie, elderly grouch of a neighbor eventually turns around, realizes the fun of the holiday, and next year starts putting up tons of gaudy Halloween decorations on Sept 1 and everyone laughs and the neighborhood is whole once again.

oh my god pp, thanks for the good laugh! I needed that!

Reminds me a little of "Practical Magic." I love that movie!

Seems like the witches want an excuse to come out early. Any excuse to be contrary and mean, eh PP? I'm sure there are opportunities year round for some witches.

How is decorating for a happy holiday like Halloween "mean"?

I put my stuff up on October 1 or the weekend before. I'd do it in mid-September, but I think it would make me look crazy.

I start with the fall decorations mid -September. I'll put up Halloween decorations mid-October. They come down the day after Halloween. I keep with the fall/Thanksgiving decorations until the Weekend after Thanksgiving, then it's time for Christmas decorations!
