Nothing except the cost here too — well, that and sometimes it takes me 3-4 hours to get a cut + color. Love the place, love my stylist and colorist.

Oh, and the salon never tries to sell me products. She (my stylist) never berates me about how long it's been since my last visit. I only go about 3-4 times a year. Usually in late August, right before Christmas, in then in April. I grow my hair out over the summer (fairly long) so that I can throw it up in the summer in buns and ponytails.

I hate this shit. I'm pretty sure that I make more $ than most stylists, so I hate the snobby "you should spend more money" approach.

Ladies, if you are not happy, why do you not speak up? Holy shit if my stylist WALKED AWAY in the middle of cutting my hair TO SMOKE, I would immediately go to the manager/owner and say "My stylist walked away to take a break in the middle of cutting my hair; is there someone else available to finish?" and then I would NOT TIP the person who needed a break. It doesn't take THAT long to cut someone's hair that they should require a smoke break.

If I asked for partial highlights and that's what they put in their computer system/on their books for me, but the stylist took it upon themselves to do full highlights I would NOT PAY FOR FULL. I would ask to speak with the owner/manager and say "It seems like there's a communication problem here - when I booked the appointment I asked for partial highlights, and when I arrived here Susie confirmed that's what I wanted but then took it upon herself to do full. I'm sure you can understand that I'm only willing to pay for the service I signed up for. If Susie made the decision to ignore what I requested and do what she thinks looks better, that's on her." And then I'd Yelp the shit out of that salon.

If the stylist went on about "how long it's been" like confession, I'd say to her at the end of the appointment, "You know, I hope you don't mind a little constructive critcissm; maybe you don't realize but you make me feel bad each time you say that. It honestly isn't ever going to pressure me enough to come in more often, just to find someone else who won't make me feel bad each time I see them."

If someone gave me a Keretin treatment I would not get up from the chair until they flat-ironed. I would say "What form of heat are you thinking of using to seal in the conditioning treatment?"

Ladies, SPEAK UP. If your stylist's voice is too loud just cringe and say with a smile "Whoa, you're much closer to my ear than I realized! Would you mind speaking a bit more quietly?" They're probably thinking you can't hear them over the noise of the hairdryers. If you're not happy with the final product, SAY SOMETHING. Be polite, but speak up. Ask to speak to the manager. If a stylist's work has scared you so much that you don't want them to touch your hair again, tell the manager or owner you'd like your botched dye job to be fixed, but by someone else. If you don't tell them what's wrong, they'll never know.

Been going to my stylist for 10 years, and I like him, but he is just so sloooooow. I am there 3+ hours for cut and partial highlights. Even if I'm the first person that day. I never take an afternoon appointment because he's always late. And I too just want to sit there and veg out or look at my iPad and not talk. But 3 hours is a long time to not talk.

I go "home" a few times a year, and go to my old previous stylist, years later. The licensing is not strict enough here for me. Anyone can become a stylist in this area. It shows.

From all my travails at different salons over the years, I think very few stylists actually know much about cutting hair. It's like they know one or two types of cuts or types of hair and it's all they do. I'm not talking about the low end places either. I always pay for more experienced staff hoping they know what they're doing. I'd love to see Tabitha from that Bravo show critique some of the local salons.

Once in McLean (McLean prices) this guy (owner) gave me a keratin treatment without heat styling/flat ironing my hair, to seal it in. Even I knew to do that. Never went back. Never looked back. If someone asks, I tell them.

I also had a terrible experience at a salon in McLean. Stylist colored my hair and the highlights came out purple (supposed to be blond). Hair also started falling out from my extensions from the coloring process. They said that it was because of my extensions, but I'd been getting extensions done for 6 years at that point and highlighting blond and NEVER EVER had hair fall out, or, of course, had my hair turn purple. Needless to say, I didn't return.

If the place is clean and friendly, and they know their work and what they are doing, I stay. If not, or if they try to upsell me, I go.

I think this a standard question to ask. What if she guessed wrong and you weren't paying attention or what if you wanted to part it on the other side? Cut the stylist a break, you're not her only client.

I get it cut from the middle. Every. Time. She should be able to remember that. She remembers lots of other things about me.

When I buy products the receptionist only announces the final sum expecting me to pay tips based on the much larger number. It's annoying to ask how much was the work.
Also, the constant upselling gets old.

My hair stylist talks nonstop at such a loud level that I am exhausted and have a headache when I leave. She takes cigarette breaks during my cuts. The stuff she talks about is cringe worthy. She has insulted me. Yes, I'm not going back.
