Organic Valley chocolate milk has a little less sugar than some of the others I've seen. It also doesn't have carrageenan which pretty much every other one I've looked at has. You could dilute it because it is very chocolate-y. I think the one I buy is 2%.

OP here. I've been trying this but we're wasting a lot of it.

Why not just slowly dilute the chocolate milk with regular?

Then only give it as a treat.

If you don't have time to make something yourself:

Depends on what you're trying to cut back and why he's drinking it. We're pretty healthy in the house, but I'm not opposed to chocolate milk as a treat.

Just trying to cut back sugar? I puree and strain strawberries then freeze the juice in an ice cube tray. I then toss a cube in things like oatmeal - but the kids might like it in milk too.

Are you referring to Ovaltine Chocolate Malt? I didn't see any Ovaltine chocolate powder at Walmart or Wegmans.

This is what I have in my cupboard: http://www.amazon.com/Nestle-Ovaltine-Rich-Chocolate-12-Ounce/dp/B003NS6FVO/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1410221807&sr=8-1&keywords=ovaltine+rich+chocolate

I think I saw it on the shelf at Target today. Can't remember where I bought mine, but it claims to have way less sugar than Nesquick and Hershey's syrup. 5 YO likes it.

I am not a kid but I love the chocolate milk I make at home. I take 1 tablespoon of Hersey's unsweetened Cocoa powder and dissolve it in less than 1/4 cup of hot water. I also add 1/2 teaspoon of instant Nescafe but that is optional. Then I mix this mixture with 1 cup of chilled Vanilla Soy Milk. It tastes heaven!

One of the almond milk companies makes an unsweetened chocolate milk and it's amazing. You could mix it half-and-half with the sweetened one, and then decrease… You might get hooked though.

DS and I love cocoa milk - literally, it's cocoa powder in milk. It is obviously not sweet at all, and since my DS had never had chocolate milk (he's 3), and this looks so dark and chocolatey, he loves it. Maybe as you step down on one of the powders, you can step up on the straight cocoa. It does have a lot of health benefits, too.

Dude, don't give your kids that garbage. It's better for them to have something made out of real food than some low cal, chemical laden concoction.

+1. I avoid anything that says "no sugar added" like the plague (for myself and my kid) - that just means Splenda or aspartame or some other crap that cannot be good for anyone.
