related to this -- I have a friend who recently told me that she NEVER washes blankets. I thought she meant just comforters or duvets or whatever -- but no, she doesn't ever wash ANY blankets. Is that strange? I thought it was strange... but maybe I'M the strange one??

Putting on a duvet cover takes under a minute, way less time than making a bed with a sheet and comforter every day.
I put the duvet cover inside out, reach inside and grab the two top corners, then grab the two top corners of the duvet/comforter and pull them out the hole at the bottom. Shake a few times, make sure the bottom corners are lined up and then button up.

I wash the duvet cover every time we change sheets (have learned to button it up in the wash or random other things get in there!)

I don't know why I know this, but I read that the "proper" way to put sheets on your bed is that if you have a blanket on top, the sheet goes with the print side, or front side, facing the bottom sheet. If you do not, it goes print or front side out so you can see the print.

Depends on the season. If I am using a blanket I put the sheet on upside down and fold over the blanket. Right now the sheet is right side up and just flat.

It's even grosser in a hotel.

We don't wash the duvet cover as often as the bottom sheet.

You should if you're not using a top sheet.

If you buy the proper sort of sheet, both sides are finished in the same manner so there is no difference. I feel sorry for your children

This. We only have solid sheets, which I find more soothing than patterns. The duvet has a gentle pattern.

This post made me laugh. My mother has very, very strong feelings on this subject. She always puts the printed side down so things look proper when it's folded over. She also believes that sleeping bodies deserve to be completely surrounded by the attractive print side--odd, but kind of a charming notion to me.
