There is nothing wrong with celebrating the small things. My son started K this week and it made me think that this is just day one of many. 13 years of school mornings ahead but this was the first (I don't count pre-k).
I think that is something to celebrate. And next year the first day of 1st grade will be celebrated as well.

Late to this thread and haven't read the previous page of, I'm guessing, snark.

I usually make homemade chocolate chip cookies on their first day of school for them to enjoy when they return and tell me all about it.

Unfortunately, I was too worn out from some health stresses this year, so I bought them lemon squares instead. I hope to return to the homemade cookies next year!

Wow, the sarcasm in this response seems so joyless. Our family celebrates minor milestones and transitions with either dinner out, ice cream, or a small dollar store "gag gift" type gift. We've done this for everything from DH getting a new position at work (same company, different job. Happens frequently.), to first/last days of school, to a minor move, to the kids moving up a level in one of their extracurriculars. Maybe our family just likes to find excuses to celebrate, but I guess I don't see what's wrong with marking things that are likely at least somewhat significant in the short term of your kids' or family's life.

I was excited too when my DD went to PS3. I tried to remain nonchalant at pickup, but I was pressed for info. ANYTHING.lol K this year isn't a big deal since she knows everyone and attends a classmates bday party the weekend before.

i think children these days are an entitled, obnoxious bunch (mine included) but i admit i also bought a toy after the first day. i didn't miss her or have butterflies but i was worried about her adjustment to a new school and wanted to make her smile.

I'm OP and yes I'm a FTM. Maybe the first day of school excitement will fade as the years go on but I love parenting and hope that any new milestone in my child's life remains an exciting or beautiful moment for our family. Not every day is about her, and no the world doesn't revolve around her, but there are some days where things are about a particular person and today was about a new phase of her life.

First day is a big deal and worth making a little fuss over. There aren't THAT many of them we can help our kids enjoy and feel special about. Rock on, OP and Lego-Mom!

Why are you all being so mean? Nasty, miserable bitches on here, I swear.

My ds took the bus home, but yeah, I was happy to see him when he got home. I made his favorite dinner & dessert.

I think the mom with the lego is very sweet and thoughtful, and I wouldn't judge her no matter what age her kid is. But for those judging her and assuming he's in grade 6, she said it was in his CARSEAT.

The Lego thing is weird, but that first-day of school/FTM bloom will wear off at some point.
