Okay, here are choices:

1. Someone could decide to send their child to private school.
2. Someone could decide to send their child to parochial school.
3. Someone could decide to homeschool their child.
4. Someone could choose another nearby public school if they were open to moving. Don't forget that some people rent before buying too. In Bethesda alone there are three public schools -- BCC, Whitman and Walter Johnson.
5. Someone could decide to send their child to the Blair magnet. I'm not sure, but I think they may have other magnet options too.

Good lord OP. The way you people nitpick and complain about the tiniest comments. Ugh. I am a teacher not in the DC area. I can't imagine what it would be like to work in Bethesda and deal with these types of parents.

Not sure why she should be criticized for her statement. We intentionally chose the BCC cluster because of the HS, and many though certainly not all of the families could choose private, not all of which cost $38,000. Lots are cheaper and there are magnet programs as well, though BCC's IB program substitutes for one of those. There are also a significant number of kids, how many I do not know, who come to BCC from local private schools, all of which seems sufficient to say that choice is available at least for some of the student body if not all. I can't imagine anyone who would be offended by a pretty innocuous comment.

Yes. Our neighbor goes to Blair. It is competitive to apply/be accepted to whatever program he attends. Long ride but they chose it. We live in NCC.
