It is really hard to find good pendant lights. I would prefer something that directed light downward

Not my style. I think you need something "warmer" looking for a kitchen and the stark lines and empty space in both designs reads too "cold" for me.

I love the first one, but for the love of god with proper bulbs - something edison bulb-esque. Not those godawful candles. Hate the second one.

+1 I think it looks like something that would hang in the two story entrance foyer of a McMansion.

I liked the first one, but agree with pp that it has to work with your design.

I think that depending on what the rest of the kitchen looks like, it'd be fine. Careful though. Don't love the candles in the middle but like the rest of the shape ok.
