I'm tempted to do this. I've paid $250 for a cut in DC and it still wasn't very good. You can get a round trip bus ticket for $40.

Not to me. I love going to New York to have my hair cut. There are some things DC truly doesn't have. One of them is good hair salons. Now this city does have cheap real estate compared to New York!

This is why I find new yorkers so incredibly annoying.

I don't really agree with the crazy NYC person who pays $200 for a cut and says there are no good salons here. But I do tend to agree that if you are willing to pay more, you'll get a better cut. My cut costs $100 with Patricia at Ilo in Georgetown, but she does a great job. I always leave there completely satisfied. I used to go to PR and Partners in Tenleytown and also Bubbles at Pentagon City, but there was always a little something "off" about my cut and I didn't leave there super happy. At Ilo I do. I only get my hair cut about four times a year, but Patricia does a great job and it can grow out still looking good. I do manis and pedis myself at home, don't wax or get massages or facials or any other professional beauty treatment done. I do it all myself at home. So I think my cuts at Ilo are justified. My hair is the only thing I'm kind of vain about and so it's worth it to me to get great cuts.

Thick and wavy? I hear ya babe. Hard to get a good haircut. Don't let anyone "thin it out" with layers or eek, use a razor. These techniques are not for us. Get yourself to a salon that knows how to cut thick wavy hair. currently go to a stylist that uses the Deva technique, but also good can be one in an ethnic neighborhood (where the ethnicity has thick wavy hair, like Dominican or Greek etc.)
