When it comes to posts about domestic violence, whether the individual poster is real or not is irrelevant - give the advice as if the person were really having this problem because I guarantee that other people who are in similar situations are reading and absorbing the advice (and victim blaming) too.

Seriously. I'm really starting to doubt this is 2014. we've made zero progress.

I reported domestic violence to the police yesterday, going to file for a protective order today. The police were more helpful than anticipated. They'll point you in the right direction.

OP, not everyone gets that it isn't just super easy to walk away from an abuser. Many women and men don't just leave the first time an incident happens. They stay or they leave and go back. People who are annoyed you didn't just walk out the first time don't really understand the cycle of abuse or how it feels to be victimized and what it takes from you.

I am glad you are still posting. Hopefully you are calling one of these hotline numbers and getting some more professional advice from people who understand. They won't shit on you for not having left before. They won't call you a troll or victim shame you. Please call them. They are a far better support and source of non biased advice than this board.

Having sat a multi-day vigil at the hospital bed of an unconscious MALE FRIEND (OMG, yes, I have those!) who was assaulted by a domestic partner, I can assure you I am well and truly aware that men can be victims of domestic violence.

That doesn't mean that all anonymous posts on an anonymous forum are accurate, complete depictions of actual reality.
