I don't think there's any underlying relationship to the term "SAHM." It's understood that WAHM/WOHM indicates paid employment, and that SAHM indicates a mom who doesn't have paid employment. Personally I think all of us are fantastic regardless of our acronym. Only idiot pot-stirrers and moms with severe insecurities give a crap whether another mom works or stays home or works from home.

Of course this is it. But too sane and not nearly as much "fun" as the mud wrestling that's going on now.

No such thing as a WOHD....we have Dads (with jobs) and SAHDs (a term developed to indicate a dad quit his job to stay home, care for kids and be a homemaker). Honestly, the SAHMs should ditch that term and go back to homemaker...that's a legit job IMHO. Of course, it's tough to claim that title if you outsource most of the work.

All of it's two divisive.

Paycheck =/= salary, given the large number of people who get paid by the hour. Though I applaud your intention.

Basically, society in general defines "work" as something you get paid for, and the mommy wars are stupid enough without having responsibility for society's definition of work dumped on them as well.

To 23:29 - you obviously can't follow logic. If SAHM Sally and WOHM Wanda both have kids in school, then they both spend roughly the same amount of time with their kids. Understand?

You obviously seem to be entangled amongst women who are "incapable of accepting the fact that..." blah blah blah. You can solve your problem in 3 easy steps: 1. Stop hanging out with women who judge you for working. 2. Stop judging other moms for staying home. 3. Stop engaging in online rhetoric on the subject. Problem solved.

I'd prefer "Employed Moms" even though it arguably excludes entrepreneurs and others who are providing income through means other than employment. And excludes dads.

Let me dumb this down for you:

SAHM Sally has two precious snowflakes in elementary school. They get on the bus at 8:30, and they get home at 3:30...except on the days they have after school activities.

WOHM Wanda also has two kids in elementary school. Same bus schedule. Wanda gets home from her FT lawyer gig in DC by 5pm (she heads in super early while DH gets the kids on the bus in the morning, so she avoids rush hour and can get home at a reasonable time).

Wanda spends 40 hours a week kicking ass at her day job.

Sally spends her day at the gym, running errands and cleaning (actually, scratch that...Sally has a cleaning service).

If you fail to recognize that one lady is working two jobs while the other lady has a cakewalk, then we are done here...obviously you are delusional.

What really bugs me is when people say "Because I WOHM I get home at 9pm" or whatever. I read it in my head as "because I work out of home mom I get home at 9pm" and it makes no sense. GRAMMAR, PEOPLE.

Distinction is whether you have to factor in commuting time, whether you can throw in a load of laundry during the day, whether you can have the cable guy come during the week or whether you have to stay home all weekend hoping he'll finally show up.
