Seriously, I have a feeling DD would like a destination wedding. What are the guests expected to pay for and what is usually paid for by whoever pays for the wedding?

In general, when couples want a "destination wedding" they are expecting their guests to foot their own travel/accommodation costs. That is why a lot of people tend to get upset when people talk about "destination weddings" because it is really a pretty selfish thing for a bride and groom to expect everyone else to spend so much money just to attend the couple's "special day."

Now, if a couple is covering the transportation and lodging costs for all their guests, the idea of a destination wedding doesn't seem nearly as selfish. A lot of guests might still balk due to the inconvenience, time off work, etc.--but personally I'd be thrilled to go to the Maldives on someone else's dime!

Mine was ~100 people, in a beautifully landscaped garden in Austin, TX. We had beer and wine but no hard liquor and a nicely catered meal that was buffet style. We had nice flowers for tables/bouquets but didn't go over the top because it was a garden. We also had a DJ. This was a couple years ago.

It ended up being around 30-35K. I imagine if you want to be in a hotel, have a plated meal rather than buffet, and have a full open bar, as well as having a higher cost of living in DC it might be closer to 50K.

I got married at Holy Trinity in Georhetown & had my reception at an upscale DC hotel (Willard / 4 seasons / ritz) in 2009 , 175 guest & it was 80k when it was all said and done (that includes sit down dinner, open bar, flowers, band, dress, hair & make up for myself & bridesmaids, photographer, photo booth, limos) my parents paid for all of it, I wanted a much much smaller wedding but it was a fabulous time. The rehearsal dinner was around 5k, my in-laws paid for it, we spent 5k on our honeymoon in addition to our rings (mine were 25k, his was only 1,100)

It really depends on where the wedding is held. I've planned weddings in DC and the coastal South, and I was shocked (in a good way) by how much cheaper the wedding was in the South. The flowers, for example, were less than half as expensive. I think it's because the vendors down there didnt charge as much of a "wedding premium."

Not sure for that number, but for a little over 200 at a comparable hotel, all in (flowers, dress, photographer, etc.), $75-$80K

I got married at a beautiful manor estate with all dc vendors and had to bring everything in (tents, catering, linens, band, etc). We had bells and whistles but nothing totally crazy, except maybe the flowers, my mom went insane on flowers. 130 guests and Wedding cost 100k. That included everything from hotel rooms for wedding party, hair/ makeup, my dress (6k), flowers, catering, open bar, after party, brunch etc. We started off with a 50k "budget."

I'm the only one asking about how much paying for my own kids' weddings would cost, as far as I know.

So when a pp said $100k, is that a wild guess or is there huge swing in prices or one number includes rings/honeymoon/Friday night dinner/Sunday brunch??
