We will walk our K into SAAC just as we were advised for our older child. It worked out great when we did this when our older child was in K. They have to make friends and get to know the SAAC staff. Also if you are able to make open house bring the school supplies then. Everyone brings them then if they are able to attend

Our school invites you to walk the kinders to their class the first week. After that you just drop them off at the front door.

Our school does allow parents to walk kids to class ONLY ON THE FIRST DAY.

I had no idea that people walked their K kids into school the first day. Both of mine were put on the school bus (with the obligatory photos taken at the bus stop). They were both excited to ride the bus and there were plenty of staff to help the kindergartners on the first day and beyond.
Me, too. My kids got on the bus and I waved good bye.

Lots of parents do this at our elementary. That way they can get the first day pictures.
Other parents park in the neighborhood and walk in on the first day, then start the bus on day two.

Everyone does at our school. In fact they tell you that parents are welcome the first few days.

At our FCPS school a huge proportion of parents are in the school to deliver the children on the first day. It's totally expected and accepted by the admin. Of course they want you to leave within ten min of the bell ringing, but everyone is excited for the first day of school.

I was supposed to drop off my K kid at the door to her classroom last year, however, to everyone's surprise, she had a melt down. So, I was invited in to help her get settled down. Did so, then left. But she knew I was leaving.

The teachers want to welcome the kids in and help them adjust to the classroom right away.
You should have already had an orientation or an open house type of thing for dropping off the classroom supplies before the first day and that's your opportunity to walk your kids to class.
I posted this, I would also add that I think there is also a safety reason for this. The school/teachers are not yet familiar with all the new parents and having a influx of students, then having a bunch of parents checking in and then walking through the hallways on the first day could jeopardize student safety.

At our school they also had older students and patrols walk the kindergartners from the entryway and cafeteria. They also had the kids walked to class by students for the summer orientation from what I remember. I think it's because space is tight in the hallways and no one wants a scene with a kid not wanting to say goodbye to a parent on the first day of school. There are plenty of opportunities for parents to volunteer in class throughout the year once the students are settled. If at all possible, I'd resist the urge to walk your kid to class. Most of these kids have been going to preschool since they were 2 1/2 or 3 anyway.

We went to Kindergarten orientation and nothing was mentioned about the procedures for the 1st day of class. I guess, they will address that at the open house
