Your home layout is public record -- when it was built, the layout was included in teh application for the construction permit.

Because you may not want potential buyers to know which improvements you made vs. ones that were already there. For example, I looked back to photos from when our previous owners bought the house, and we could see that they didn't actually make the improvements to the house that they claimed they made (e.g. the bathrooms had already been renovated, the kitchen cabinets had already been painted, etc…). This allowed us to put in a lower offer b/c they really put $0 into the house although they claimed they put in like $30K.

As a PP noted, Redfin and Zillow will generally take down within 24 hours - you might need to formally register with their sites and "claim" your home to do so. Keep elevating with the listing agent's brokerage until you get a response; our photos were off the MLS within a week.

A professional can put together a complete layout of your house in minutes by looking at the pictures (of course, provided they show enough information, which they do most of the time). Let me enlighten you. Most people who break into houses are not professionals. They are people who want to grab easy small items or your car. They can figure out pretty easily where your stuff is located. If your house deserves the attention of a true professional, you should have a more elaborate security system to protect your home. I agree that photos should be taken down, but doing so does not lessen your chances of a burglary

Not to mention most real estate assessment sites either have pics of the exterior and/or building sketches which would allow many people to figure out the layout.

Um, I can guess the layout of most homes on the planet...it's not rocket science. I could walk through your neighbor's open house next weekend and know the layout of all similar homes in the neighborhood.

So???

What edge does that give a potential thief?

Do the photos show where your alarm is? Where the main strip is? Do I know where your safe is? Where you hide your jewels and cash? Noting that the furnishings in the photos online are of the seller's things, not the new owner.

Security tip: a messy home without valuables is a big deterrent.
