I haven't found this to be the case at all. I moved here from a small town, 14 years ago, and now consider it home primarily because of the wonderful people I have met.
You must be in the far out suburbs. Close in suburbs are full of obnoxious, selfish, aggressive, me me me types. Think Bethesda, Chevy Chase, Arlington, etc.
