This really resonates with me. Recently went to a pool party for 5 year olds and I was one of the only moms who got in there and went swimming with the kids, even though I was by far the fattest. I had a whole cloud of little kids jumping to me and had to judge all the swimming races. I had to squish down some self doubt, but it was actually really fun. Some of the parents thanked me later for taking their kids in.

I'm not a big pool person, but my daughter loves it, so I've been forced to roll with it. I don't love my upper thighs or ass now that i'm in my 40's, so I found a nice sturdy two-piece suit from Athleta that has matching boy shorts for just a bit of extra coverage. "sturdy" means it stays put when my 5-year-old is hanging all over me and tugging on me in the pool. for those who don't like their stomachs either, you could do a tankini with boy shorts and feel a bit more dressed.

Without kids, I would never go to the pool or the beach; it's just not my thing. I'm thrilled that I don't have to suit up every evening after work just so they can cool down. I watch my kids like a hawk, but I'll keep skipping my swim suit now that I (finally) can!!

I could've written this! I've never been a pool or beach person, though we go for the kids. Once they hit the point where I was no longer needed in the water, I was thrilled to be able to just veg in the shade with a book or paper (still watching kids, but relaxing). I hate greasing up with sunscreen and wearing the suit, though I don't have any particular body issues. I'm just not a warm weather kind of person. My friends with younger kids envy me, sitting there reading!

I have no body issues whatsoever, I just hate the pool, the sunscreen and spending my time in the sun. Can't wait for the girls to be old enough not to need me in the pool.

I wear my swimsuit proudly and get in the pool and the ocean to swim with my daughter. Always have. If people have problem with my too big body, it's there problem.

Thank you so much OP! My mom never wore a swimsuit. She was self-conscious and embarrassed of her body all the time. As a daughter, what she was doing really impacted me when I ended up with the same body I saw her trying to hide. I've been guilty of wearing a coverup that I don't take off and not getting more than my feet in the water. I have all boys so figured it didn't matter. Next time, I'll wear my swimsuit proudly!
