Please tell me they're fun at least? Or that there's booze to numb the pain of sleeping on the floor with your SILs.

You could also say that if a marriage can't survive a crowded condo for a couple nights, then you have bigger problems than the condo.

I think it's ridiculous that getting a 2nd room is not an option. If you can't afford it, that's one thing--but to piss off some matriarch? Please.

We had 6 adults and 3 kids in a 2 bedroom beach condo and it was "fine" but not ideal. The grandparents slept on the pullout couch in the living room, we 4 shared a room with two twin beds and my BIL/SIL shared a queen with their dd. There were issues--my kids wake up way earlier than anyone else so we had to whisper in our room with snacks for a good 1.5 hours before we could go to the living room for breakfast.

I can't imagine Adding 3 more individuals to the mix. How would everyone use the bathroom?

Just take a stand (politely) and do something about this ridiculousness.

Typical doormat OP. I have no respect for people who put their children in unsafe, impractical, and miserable conditions because they can't stand up for themselves. "I'm sorry baby, I know sleeping in the car seat or stroller isn't as comfortable and you don't sleep as well, but mommy can't stand up for you."

Pathetic

You knew what you were getting into when you said "I Do". Why is this a surprise?

The discomfort of pissing off DH and his family would be far outweighed by the discomfort of living in that situation. In other words, I would rather ruffle feathers and rent a room.

HELL NO.

Seriously. What if there is a fire, OP?

For a family this size you need two, 2 bedroom condos at a minimum. Anything less than that is insane and probably illegal.

I would just book the room and let my husband go batshit, but that's me. Get another SIL on your side and get another 2 BR together. Your DH's plan is beyond insane, unsanitary, and dangerous.

Why can't you book the other room and you use it for your dc to nap and for you and dc to sleep? That way you can spend all of the "family" time with the others in the condo but you will be sleeping in comfort. If dh thinks family time includes sleeping on the floor (where else is he going to be sleeping, let him stay with everyone else). At least you and your child will be comfortable and you will have privacy to shower, etc.

Anonymous wrote:How crazy is this? DH's brother owns a condo at the beach - it is a 2 bedroom/ 2 bath. His entire family is going on a beach trip for 3 days/2 nights and we are all cramming into this place. That's his parents, his 2 brothers, their wives and 2 kids each and us and our kid. Our kid still naps so I have no idea how this is going to work. Though the condo is in a hotel building, the brothers refuse to get a hotel room because "it takes away from the family trip". I'm pretty sure having 3 unhappy wives will do that too.

Any tips on how to handle this? I can't refuse to go. I can't book a room for myself. These are just not options if I want to remain married. I'm really most concerned about the fact that the bedrooms are directly adjacent to the living area and our kid is a light sleeper. So while I don't mind to push her bedtime on vacation, she will be unable to sleep with his loud family up until all hours. And same goes for naps.

Help!

I think this is a cop-out. You are not doing anything illegal, immoral or unethical by getting another place. Just rip the band-aid off and do it. No need to make a big a deal of it. I guarantee that when you do, you will make everyone else happier because there will more space for them. EVERYONE will have a more pleasant vacation. When basic needs are met, it's a win-win for everyone. Just book the room already.

I would come down with a mysterious illness the night before the trip so that I was unable to go.

The minute you get there, sit in the bathroom for an hour with a tummy ache. Repeat after dinner. See how that works for them all.

Could you rent a room with another family - so everyone is more comfortable, but it still has the family tone? That space could also be designated the kids apartment trying to think of something .... This is a terrible situayion

Bring a tent for the kids.
