Although my family is only at the pool in the afternoons, I know that many families at my pool buy dinner from food trucks that swing by; they also picnic. There is a concession. There are also theme nights that are potluck with some sponsored things like "Crab Fest" for which there is a fee. There are movie nights. Many families with little kids, like mine, aren't into this but in my observation the elementary school age families sometimes build this into their summer and social life includes the pool.

Our pool has a dozen grills and a kitchen (no stoves or ovens, just prep and microwaves). On Saturdays they bring in different food trucks, for example Vietnamese, Thai, Barbecue, or interesting things like that. Sometimes there are big pool-wise cookouts. The swim team does potlucks every Friday night. On the rest of the nights we just pool resources with whoever is around and turn it into a big potluck with whichever or our friends are there. We also do dinner parties with the 20 or so families in our group.

The community pools vary. I've seen ones with just vending machines and others that have a small concession stand that grill up burgers.

OP, if you're interested in a local pool, I'd check which ones are available in your zip code and if they have a wait list.

If you don't want to commit to a pool, there are lots of county run pools/spray parks, etc.

I'm thinking they belong to a nice country club with a decent poolside menu

Or they bring a picnic, or have pizza delivered, or bring stuff to throw on the communal grill.

We belong to an awesome, not fancy pool. It's like a throwback to the 60s. Not OP but we eat there a lot. We grill, there is a small kitchen for members. I use that to make sides. We order pizza. Kids are on swim team so there s lot in the AM, we come back for dinner with DH. It's a huge part of our social life in the summer.
