You have to peel them..after that they should be okay to eat

this. just wash. a little floor dirt is better than poopoo or chemicals from fertilizer. fertilizer is more dangerous (natural or not) than anything on your floor. so just wash and enjoy as you would have anyway

PP here. I think it's fine to of course. Just giving the option that even if you're super careful about what goes in the kid's mouth for fear of kid getting sick easily, etc, it should certainly be fine for a healthy adult.

I'm sorry OP but this has me chuckling. It's your own home, not the eatery at the mall. DD is also 2 and has zero trouble understanding that food on the floor at home is okay, and not okay elsewhere. Unless you have an immune-suppressed child why waste perfectly good food? Very silly...

We don't give food that has fallen on the floor to the kids, but that's because they are two and we are trying to teach them that food that goes on the floor is dirty and gone (mainly to teach them not to throw food on the floor). I often take such food, wash it and set it aside and eat it when they aren't around. When they are older and understand more (and when they get out of the throwing food on the floor phase), I'll teach them that you can wash dirty food and eat it.
