DH is retired military.
Questions: 1. any insights as to what the initiation costs and annual dues are for military types?
2. Is the social membership worth it?
3. Do you use your membership often? If not, why?
4. Honestly, will we pack up the kids to go to dinner there versus somewhere else? If so, why?
5. Any other projects planned since the big renovation or is that it for the near future?
We are on vacation at the moment and it's too difficult to call the membership department and have an adult conversation with 3 kids running around -- any and all help appreciated!!
My parent's joined when I was 5 and my brother was 7 - no military connection. I think at the time they were desperate for members, and it must have been dirt cheap because my parents were not big spenders.
I liked it - did tennis, golf, swim & dive teams - because I had a bunch of friends who hung out there doing the same things. My brother hated it - never find a group to hang with and pretty much refused to have anything to do with it from 11 on. My father loved it - played golf with his golf buddies a few times a week while working and nearly every day once retired. It was worth it just for my dad's golf habit and the good, long-term friends he made there. My mother was meh about it. I grew up in Rosemont (Alexandria) so it was close and easy.
I belong as an adult (I'm 46), and my kids have grown up going there. I live in Del Ray, so still close and easy. We used it a lot during the summer when they were young - swim, tennis, and golf. I wouldn't pack them up and take them to dinner there, but we ate there often bc we were already there and it was easy. They're 15 now, and we hardly went last summer.
I don't think there are any more big projects looming - the new clubhouse was a big deal and pissed a lot of old-timers off - but I'm not really paying attention.
