+1...not nearly as crowded as Alexandria either. The park even has a little beach that would be perfect for a picnic.

Anywhere along GW Parkway - tons of picnic areas


+1. South of the Beltway, between there and Mount Vernon. Not tons, actually, but a few good ones. Just south of Fort Hunt there's a nice one.

Jones point, underneath WWbridge. Plenty of parking. Clean bathrooms. Playground. Dog park. Lots of green space by river by the old light house.
