the middle schoolers are usually volunteers, but you really should have a paid coach present. They need the volunteers to provide help because it is just too many non swimmers for a single coach to handle.

OP, where are the adults who are supervising preswim team? You can't mean that only 13 year olds are supervising all those beginner swimmers??

Our pre-team is for kids who can swim about 1/4 of the way across the pool - no strokes necessary - just anyway they can make it across without touching the bottom. For regular swim team, they need to be able to swim the length of the pool.
