This is not a "DC" thing. I went to camp 40 years ago and my parents tipped the counselors back then. No one is forcing you to do anything. My feeling is that teachers and counselors get paid very little relative to the time they spend with our kids. I like to acknowledge their support. If you don't want to or don't believe in it, they you don't have to tip or give a teacher a gift.

We do it at visiting day. This really isn't such a big deal. Call the camp office and see what the camp does. If they do allow tipping, I am sure they have a process, if no you are clear.

I went to sleepaway camp 30 yrs ago. I remember my parents tipping the counselor back then.
