Plan b is no walk in the park it hurts once you take it like horrible cramps. Worst cramps I ever had.

That's not always an option for people for various reasons. But I'm sure the OP appreciates your super obvious advice.

Op here, thanks again to everyone. There's another thread started I'm guessing, at least partly, because of this thread, asking why some older women are so stupid not to use some type of protection. We normally do, we just didn't this time. No failures, no real reason, other than we were just happy, silly and in the moment. Fortunately, we're adults, married 25 years, with 3 lovely children, and financially able to have another. PPs came closer than I realized, until reflecting on it, and talking with my hubby. We would both enjoy another closer to our youngest's age. We're just too superstitious or scared or something, to tempt fate. We have 3 perfectly healthy kids, will the fourth (especially at our ages) have a problem? Anyway, maybe they were right...and, I guess we'll see what happens as I ovulate today or tomorrow. Thank you all again for the comments/suggestions! Like I said, I've never really known what a plan B was, and now I feel I know the ins and outs and all arounds of emergency contraception!

I'm 43 and we use birth control because I don't want to get pregnant. Period.

Perfect idea. I think within five days is the best time...Of course the sooner the better.

I think it's pricey, but if you are lower income, Planned Parenthood has it cheaper.

We have a 3 year old and not that he wouldn't love a younger bro/sis, I'm not sure I could mentally handle another AMA pregnancy.

Damn tdy's and horny homecomings.

pregnant at 38 and 42 - one-shot deals
first not planned - and unexpected, as my period was very late
second was planned

Yes, you can get pregnant.

Don't be stupid.

Yeah, there almost needs to be a separate forum for these threads. There have been at least a dozen lately where the OP is in her 40s and might be pregnant, just found out she is pregnant, doesn't want to be pregnant, had unprotected sex and doesn't know what to, or some combination of the above.

I can't find the citation, but I remember reading that mid 40s is a very common time for unplanned pregnancies, coming second only to the teen years. Why is this? Because women who have had fairly regular cycles all their lives, are suddenly thrown by changes during perimenopause. Their cycles shorten by a day or two, meaning they ovulate a bit sooner, and suddenly... there's more of a chance of an "oops".

You understand how birth control works but chose not to use it, so I am assuming on some level you want to be pregnant.

I don't get it. 40s can STILL be fertile (not as much as earlier decades, but COME ON LADIES). If you've made it this far without having a kid every other year, I'm sure you used BC in the past and can continue to do so until you are ACTUALLY out of the woods (post-menapausal), which should only be about 5 more years to be safe.

Chances are extremely high it will come to naught, so don't worry too much, OP.
