Ok, let's get real here, how many PhDs do you know who work as janitors or parking lot attendants? Both DH and I have PhDs in different fields and neither of our grad school friends work for peanuts.


+1. I don't know any, either.


I have read articles about Ph.Ds on food stamps, but I think they in fields where it is known the job market is poor like comparative lit and philosophy. I don't think people expected tenure to be an impossible dream in some fields however and many Ph.D.s in the humanities can only seem to get adjunct work.

Both a shiny new grad and a vet with 20 years of experience is going to be tired when they get to the end of the school year. Everybody needs a break.

I'm a mom of two SN kids and I'm tired by June and ready for a change of scenery and R&R.
